Caring Together

Caring Together support family carers of all ages across Cambridgeshire, Peterborough and Norfolk. Caring Together also offer flexible, professional home care services to adults and children with a range of disabilities and health conditions.

There is also a wealth of information on the NHS website about carers and caring. Below are some links into the site that we hope you will find useful.

  • A guide to care and support – This guide is for people who have care and support needs, their carers, and people who are planning their future care needs.
  • Caring for someone – Includes advice on challenging behaviour, moving and lifting people and medicines.
  • Care after hospital – Providing care for people who have been recently discharged from hospital including care and support afterwards. 
  • Taking a break – Respite care means taking a break from caring, while the person you care for is looked after by someone else.
  • Support and benefits for carers – Includes carer’s assessments, support from local councils, respite care and help for young carers.
  • Work and Disability – Guidance, support and help with employment issues. Almost half of working-age people with disabilities in the UK are employed. But this figure should be higher. With the right support, many more could join their ranks.
  • Being a Young carer – Advice for carers 18 or under and their entitlement to support.

Finance and Law

Help claiming benefits, looking after your bank balance and understanding the legal issues of caring.

  • Benefits for carers – You might not think of yourself as a carer. But you probably are if you’re looking after someone regularly, including your spouse or a family member, because they’re ill or disabled.  As a carer, you may be entitled to one or more state benefits to help you with the costs.
  • Benefits for the under-65s – You can get a range of benefits if you’re between 16 and 64 and you have an illness or disability. The extra money can help with the cost of your care. Check what benefits you can get and how to get them.
  • Benefits for the over-65s – You can get a range of benefits if you’re over 65 and you have an illness or disability. The extra money can help with the cost of your care. Check what benefits you can get and how to get them.
  • Carer’s Assessment – This guide is for people who have care and support needs, their carers, and people who are planning their future care needs.
  • Other benefits – Advice for carers and the people they are looking after on how to pay for care and support, and where you can get help with costs. 
  • Telephone helplines – Various helplines such as Age UK, Money Advice Service, Citizens Advice Bureau.

Carers week

Caring Together and partner organisations organise an annual week (usually in early June) during this week they have a number of activities going on and ask people to take a moment to help ensure those people looking after a family member or friend are visible and valued.

What’s available locally?

Locally there are many community projects going on to help support our young carers such as monthly workshops in Peterborough and Huntingdon for secondary school aged children and younger groups.
